 Brief description of Branch Mission

Pursuant to Hawaii Administrative Rule Charter 27, the Department of Education may provide public school bus transportation services in order to facilitate the State's compulsory attendance law. The DOE Student Transportation Service Branch (STSB) is responsible foe the contracting public transportation service for eligible public school students in grates K-12. To be eligible for this service, students must attend the public school with their residential attendance area and live a mile or more from that school.

 Bus Pass Application Procedures

<A> The Department of Education utilizes a prepaid bus pass system that requires parents and guardians to pre-purchase their children’s school bus pass. Students who receive free lunch, students who are wards of the State, and students who are the fourth sibling of three who are already fare-paying bus riders are eligible for free bus service (see part 2 of the application form).
<B> Application forms are available at all school offices and bus driver. Please return your completed application form to the bus driver.
<C> Bus pass payments are accepted at all school offices.

 

 General information regarding Special Education transportation

The Department of Education also provides curb-to-curb bussing services for special needs students whose Individualized Education Plan includes transportation as a related service. Please see your child’s teacher for information on specialized transportation service for which your child may be eligible.
